As a tradition, we have once again dispensed with Christmas gifts in 2021, preferring instead to support two charitable organizations from our region. With our Christmas donation, we not only want to do good, but also draw attention to the work of the associations, which work with great energy for our society every day.
This year, the 6,666 euros went in equal parts to the State Association of Self-Help for Physically Disabled Persons and the Tübingen Hospice.
The State Association of Self-Help for Physically Disabled Persons is committed to a barrier-free and inclusive society. People with disabilities should have the same rights, chances and opportunities to participate. As part of the project "Future Accessibility 4.0", people with different types of disabilities are involved. They work on a voluntary basis to achieve comprehensive accessibility in public buildings such as city halls, schools and theaters, as well as sports facilities and swimming pools. Public transport is also to be promoted, e.g. by means of the redesign of barrier-free bus stops.
For more than 25 years, seriously ill people in Tübingen County have been cared for with the help of outpatient hospice services or as inpatients in palliative care units in hospitals. The Tübingen Hospice, which has opened in October 2021, is the final building block in comprehensive palliative hospice care. The aim of the hospice, which is run by the Deutsches Institut für Ärztliche Mission e.V. (German Institute for Medical Mission) is to accompany people in dignity and provide them with the best possible care in their last days of life in a place that is oriented to their needs and conveys a sense of security.
