BUGA 2019: Smart and sustainable down to the energy supply

The National Garden Show in Heilbronn, with its innovative district concept and a smart energy infrastructure that we implemented, was officially opened today by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

For the first time in the history of the National Garden Show, more than 800 people live on a BUGA site. For its sustainable supply concept for the Neckarbogen residential and commercial district, ZEAG Energie AG was awarded first place in the Baden-Württemberg Contracting Award in November 2018.

The standard district supply solution we developed for ZEAG Energie AG is also used in Neckarbogen. While outfitting the district's energy center, 16 of our Substation Controller and our SE²MASTER energy center controller were installed. In addition, all units are connected to the SE²OPERATOR central control system already installed at ZEAG Energie AG.

Over 320 apartments and various commercial units are supplied by a CHP unit with an output of 140 kWel and 212 kWth and a peak load boiler with 578 kWth. Some of the residents, commercial units and e-charging stations also receive tenant electricity from the CHP. In addition, ZEAG Energie AG operates a tenant electricity model with photovoltaics and battery storage in this district.

After the National Garden Show, the residential district is to be expanded with further buildings in the coming year. A third construction phase is scheduled for completion by 2025. Neckarbogen area will then accommodate around 3,500 residents in total.
